Oh I loved this. And it was a good reminder that my boys do almost no household tasks and it is my own laziness. Easier to just do it myself than cajole them to... but this means I am likely raising lazy husbands. Summer task--their engagement in household activities!!!
Still thinking about that lovely party (and all the *additional* things I'd wished I'd said in my toast. So I'll put it to a letter instead!).
I have to say, I got my older kids making their breakfasts and lunches while I was pregnant with the youngest (they were 4/6) and everyone doing their own laundry at various points (youngest just turned 8) and that alone was a game changer. My number one laundry success besides refusing to do it anymore was giving them each their own laundry basket instead of a shared one in the bathroom, so there’s no sorting.
Happy Birthday, woman of valor! (Do you recommend Beast academy? I’m definitely interested.)
Happy birthday, dear Rachael! Love hearing your voice via Substack these days. Always inspiring, as a mother and writer.
I loved reading this, Rachael! What a beautiful image- your girls with ten candles a cake. Hope you have a wonderful summer!
